New Families

Welcome to the GCA Royal Knight Family!

Picture
We are thrilled to have you as a part of our school community and honored that you’ve entrusted us with your child’s education. We believe it takes a village to raise a Christ-centered child, and we are committed to partnering with you to support your family on that mission.

We've complied some resources below that are specifically designed to make your transition to GCA smoother.

Plugging In at GCA

Volunteering is a great way to meet new families and get connected to the GCA community. We are blessed to have a school full of AWESOME families who love to support our mission and we'd love to have you join in on the fun! Here are a few ways to plug in at GCA:

Check your inbox: We have an email newsletter called The Village that is dedicated to keeping our families updated on all the ways they can support GCA.  It's sent out every few weeks and will let you know about upcoming opportunities to volunteer on campus or how to donate items. Have a grandparent or family friend who would love to support GCA too? You can share this link with them so they can get the newsletter too!

Join a team: We have a bunch of fun volunteer teams you can join- these teams are a great way to meet other GCA families, while having a positive impact on our school community. Whether you want to be a part of our silly morning greeting group- the Sunshine Squad- or help serve food at our school events, we've got a place for you!

Email your child's teacher: Each teacher chooses a Room Parent at the beginning of the year and may already have an RP picked, but they also love when parents raise their hand and offer to help out in their child's class.

New Family FAQs

What is the GCA dress code?
Here's a great cheatsheet we've created to make figuring out the dress code a little bit easier on those busy school mornings. You can also log into our parent portal (district code: gua-va) to see the official dress code policy and uniform store link.

What are 'spirit wear days?'
Spirit Wear Days (sometimes referred to as 'School Spirit Days') happen every Friday. Students may wear the following:
  • Tops: Kulture Shock branded GCA spirit shirts or any shirt purchased through the GCA Sports Complex (including the Mascot Shop apparel (by Jostens)
  • Bottoms: Jeans are permitted in all grades

There may occasionally be extra Spirit Wear Days announced by email.

Are there microwaves in the cafeteria?
  • JK-5th: students do not have access to microwaves during lunch.
  • 6th-12th Grade: there are multiple microwaves available at lunch. Students are encouraged to bring items that can be heated up in 2 minutes or less to allow all students time to use the microwaves.

Are lunches or snacks available to purchase?
  • Lunches: Can be purchased through our lunch provider, Lunch Link. Lunches must be ordered by 1 pm the day before you want the lunch.  You can pre-order your lunches up to 60 days in advance.
  • Ice Cream: We host special Frozen Fridays throughout the year for our JK-5th grade lunch blocks. Students can pre-purchase a treat and our GCA 'Ice Cream Truck' will deliver it to them!
  • Snack Shack: Students in our 6th-12th grade lunch blocks can purchase snacks each day during their lunch block. Cash or card is accepted and all proceeds go to our senior class.

Can families join their children for lunch?
Absolutely! We love helping families spend extra time together and it truly does brighten up your child's day. Families are welcome to sit together in our Atrium Cafe during lunch or upstairs on the Ring. Please make sure to sign in at the office first so you can get a visitor's tag.

Are there extracurricular leadership opportunities for my students?
At GCA, one of our core missions is to develop strong Christian leaders. We offer many ways for our students to practice and grow their leadership skills in real-life settings:

   Elementary Students:
  • Royal Knighthood (4th & 5th grade)

   Secondary Students:
  • Student Ambassadors
  • Buddy Program
  • Homeroom Announcements Team
  • Community Serve Days
  • Chapel Leader (opportunity to lead a chapel)
  • National Honors Society (including Science NHS and Jr. NHS)

This is our first GCA Spirit Week. How much should we dress up?
Our students and staff LOVE to go all out for Spirit Week! Grades compete to win the Spirit Stick, with points awarded for participating in the themed dress up days, so dressing up will definitely help your team. We've got a fun list of Blue & Gold items you can use to dress up your look. Here are a few examples from past years to give you an idea of what to expect this week:
