Quick Answers

Absent or Dismissing Early Procedure
If your child is going to be absent or is getting picked up early from school, here's what you do:
  • 6th-12th Grade: send an email to BOTH Emily Dorer (the administrative assistant for the secondary principal) at [email protected] AND your child's homeroom teacher. Ms. Dorer will let your child's teacher(s) know and give the front desk a heads-up if you need to pick kids up early. For extended absences please also include Crystal Burroughs (Secondary Principal) at [email protected] on the email.

💡 Tip: The front office is closed from 1:30-2pm and again from 2:50 to the end of carline at 3:30.

Lost & Found
If your child is missing something, you can contact Jessica Swicegood, our front office administrator.
  • Email: [email protected]
  • Call: 804-715-3210
Please include a brief description of the missing item so Mrs. Swicegood can locate it better.
Viewing Online Textbooks (9th-12th grade)
During enrollment, families can choose to pay for access to e-textbooks, in addition to the paper textbooks. Below you will find the information needed to access your e-textbooks at both school and home. If you do not see the textbook for a class you are taking or have trouble accessing your e-textbooks, please come see Mrs. Dorer ([email protected]) so that she can assist you. If you had e-textbook in previous years, those books may still appear in your account.

LeadershiP opportunities for Grades 6-12
Our Student Ambassador program is designed to equip our 6th-12th grade students with leadership opportunities. Students in the Student Ambassador program brainstorm and help shape new programming ideas, practice servant leadership at school events throughout the year and complete service projects together. Applications for SA are emailed to families at the beginning of each school year.

Our Buddy Program pairs older students with younger students to build meaningful mentorships, encourage connection, and create a supportive school community where every student feels known and valued.

Other leadership opportunities:
  • Homeroom Announcements Team
  • Community Serve Days
  • Chapel Leader (opportunity to lead a chapel)
  • National Honors Society (including Science NHS and Jr. NHS)

Driver's Ed Info

Virginia requires students to complete a Driver's Education Classroom course before they can get their license.
GCA offers an on-campus elective class that fulfills this classroom requirement.

Students can take this one-semester class in the semester when they turn 15 ½ (typically during their sophomore year). Families can get more information and add the course to their student’s schedule during their annual spring conference with our guidance counselor.

Exploratories & Electives Overview

In addition to our core classes, GCA students in grades 6-12 are also required to choose classes that are geared toward their unique interests. We call these classes either Exploratories or Electives. During your spring meeting with our guidance counselor, your child can select the classes they would like to take the following year.

GRADES 6-8: EXPLORATORIES
These classes are designed for our middle school students to explore possible areas of interest before starting high school (ex: culinary arts, graphic design, creative writing).  Each exploratory class lasts for one quarter, allowing them to experience a wide variety of topics during their middle school years.

GRADES 9-12: ELECTIVES
These semester-long classes allow our high school students to dive deeper into a subject they are passionate about (ex: animation, photography, psychology). Students wishing to earn more college credit can also choose to take a dual enrollment class through our University Partners in place of an elective.

Snack Shack

- available during our 6th-12th grade lunch blocks -
Middle & high school students are invited to purchase snacks from the Snack Shack.
